"Under the aegis of a highly demanding word, 'Stile', an indication of works of architecture and furnishings, and also of drawings, and of works of painting and sculpture". So wrote Gio Ponti, in January 1941, in the first issue of "Stile", the magazine "of ideas, of life, of the future, and above all of art" that he created and directed for Garzanti Editions, after leaving Editoriale Domus.

"Lo Stile nella casa e nell'arredamento" - as the magazine's full title initially read - was published monthly for the duration of the war, and continued until 1947, when, after more than seventy issues, Ponti resumed negotiations with Gianni Mazzocchi to return as editor of "Domus". During these six years, "Stile" was Ponti's magazine, his "creature": he was its creator and director, but also its editor and pager; he designed many of its covers, "to express his thoughts with art" and signed, with his name or one of his various pseudonyms (Archias, Artifex, Mitus, Serangelo, Tipus, etc.), over four hundred articles, including editorials, notes and italics.
