Promoted by the encounter with the Milanese engineer Carlo Maurilio Lerici, perfect embodiment of the humanist technician, the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm is the most successful example of his idea of architecture as a manifestation of a civilization of living characterized by fruitful cooperation between different cultures. The building in Stockholm was to be - and suc- total work of art that is not confined only to the spatial expression, but extended to all the furnishings here considered as an architectural expansion. For the state of conservation and for the complete range of original furnishings, the Institute is therefore a unique example which seems only right to dedicate a thorough investigation and a meticulous reconstruction
